Dignity, inclusion and support
Every person, whatever their ability, is created with dignity and deserves respect, care and the chance to learn and take part in community life. The Office promotes awareness, acceptance and practical support for children and adults living with disability, and for the families who care for them.
Conditions we support
- Autism: a difference in how a person communicates, learns and relates to others. With understanding and early support, many children with autism grow in confidence and skill.
- Dyslexia: a learning difference that makes reading, spelling and writing harder. Children with dyslexia are often bright and capable, and do well when schools and families use the right methods.
- Down syndrome: a genetic condition caused by an extra copy of chromosome 21. People with Down syndrome can learn, work, form friendships and enjoy full lives with love, therapy and opportunity.
What the initiative does
- Awareness: correcting myths and stigma in mosques, schools and communities, and encouraging early assessment.
- Family support: encouragement, guidance and a listening ear for parents and caregivers.
- Inclusion: promoting acceptance, access and participation in schools, mosques and community life.
- Referral: connecting families with qualified specialists, therapists and support services.
Families who need support, or schools and mosques that would like the initiative to visit, can send us a message.
